A large Augsburg silver cannister

Slightly bombé form corpus with cylindrical screw-top lid on waisted foot. Decorated with finely chased fruit swags amid acanthus, the corresponding lid with moulded hinged handle. H 23 cm, weight 762 g.
Marks of Johann I Mittnacht, 1679 - 83.

Many fine works by Mittnacht are now housed in the treasury of the Munich residence, the Städtischen Kunstsammlungen in Augsburg and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
