An early 16th century Mechelen Anna Selbdritt group

Wood, carved three quarters in the round, the reverse only summarily worked. Extensive remains of original polychromy, only the blue overpainted. A group depicting Saint Anne in matronly garb holding the diminutive figure of her daughter Mary in her right hand. Designed for a frontal viewpoint. The Virgin holds Christ in Her lap, who reaches for the book in the left hand of Saint Anne.
Very minor wear. Mounted to the presumably original socle with a metal clamp to the reverse. Height 33.5 cm (with socle).
