A wood and lacquer suzuribako. Late 19th century

The lid displaying a Portuguese man with a dog in a sunken reserve with coat-of-arms at the corners in multi-coloured lacquer and aogai, nashiji to the inside, to the reverse of the lid a sailing boat in a cartouche with European motifs, inside the base an inset with a suzuri decorated with a cross and roundels in lacquer, and a metal suiteki, along with two brushes, a silk cloth, wooden box inscribed to the lid Nanban makie o-suzuribako and a furoshiki.
