Provenance

Eugène or Paul Van Acker and by descent to the present owner
Eugène Van Acker was an engineer sent by Leopold II to the Congo in the 1890s to assist in the construction of the railroad between Leopoldville and Matadi. He returned to Belgium in 1914. His son, Paul, born in Belgium in 1898, travelled to the Congo in 1925 as a geologist to search for diamond and gold deposits. He created an independent mining company in the Congo, the failure of which resulted in his return to Belgium in 1929.
