A platinum Belle Epoque diamond and pearl necklace

Hand pierced garland form with removable droplet on a hinged loop set with old-cut diamonds. The bezel set solitaire diamond ca. 1 ct (L/M, p). The remaining stones in total ca. 2.60 ct. On the original chain. L 43 cm. Weight 15.3 g.
Circa 1910/15.

According to family bequest, this necklace was a present given by the Director of the Danzig wharf to his wife in 1916 or 1917. He organised a lavish gala dinner on occasion of a visit by the Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy, Prince Heinrich of Prussia, and wanted his wife to be appropriately adorned. Our photograph shows the lady with her necklace in 1936.
