A pair of rare Meissen porcelain potpourri vases

Fired in two parts and screw-mounted, with original pierced lids. Of Neoclassical form with narrow bases, gadrooned lower sections, draped with leopards' skins. Blue crossed swords mark with star and II. Chips and and older, yellowed restoration to the upper rims. H circa 21.5 cm.

In his essay "Die Schwertermarken der Porzellanmanufaktur Meißen nach 1813 bis 1860" (Keramos 96/1982), Joachim Kunze proves that marks with a star and two dashes were used as of 1st February 1817 for "the best of the new masses" (p. 16).
