A Netherlandish mortar with grotesque decor

Greyish cast bronze, slightly mottled brown patina with traces of green corrosion. Broad band of grotesque decor with half-figures and scrolling tendrils beneath a narrow band of acanthus. The handles formed as finely modelled dolphins. H 187, D 20.7 cm. Weight 7.2 kg.
Late 16th / first half 17th C.
