A carved red lacquer ruyi sceptre. Qianlong period (1736-1795)

An elegantly curved red lacquer ruyi sceptre carved with the Eight Buddhist Elements (bajixiang): the ruyi head with baldachin, lotus flower, vase and twin-fish, the central reserve with the conch shell, endless knot and parasol, and the flaming wheel at the end. The three framed reserves separated by lotus flowers and tendrils and an archaic pattern below the ruyi head. The sides decorated with a meander pattern and the reverse with a continuous swastika pattern. Restored.
