A fine black wood and light boxwood netsuke of a mask box, by Masayoshi. Mid-19th century

Carved on the top with the nô masks of Jô and Uba, the sides finely engraved with kiri and chrysanthemums, the box opening to reveal poets Kakimoto no Hitomaru with a brush, Ono no Komachi with a fan and a third poet. Signed Masayoshi to the underside.
