A marine ivory netsuke of Okane. 19th century

Preventing a horse from fleeing, she places one foot on the reins dragging on the ground. Finely carved and accentuated with a dark patina. Inscribed Minkoku in a rectangular reserve.
Young Okane from Ômi (Shiga prefecture) was believed to be so strong as to be able to accomplish this task easily. This subject underlies the kabuki play 'Ômi no Okane'.
