A courtish Saxon silver gilt-mounted glass apothecary bottle

The bottle is thought to originate from the travel apothecary of Augustus the Strong. Rectangular bottle decorated to the display side in polychrome enamels with the Polish and Saxon-Electoral coat of arms beneath a royal crown with an ermine-lined cloak. The shoulder numbered "No. 11". H 15.5 cm.
Unmarked, ca. 1700.

The now lost travel apothecary consisted of five large iron-mounted wooden caskets, one half of which were filled with silver-mounted glass medicine containers. Twenty-four of these containers are known to still exist today, four of which are housed in the German Museum of Pharmacy in Heidelberg.
