A red marble wall fountain made for Hans Auracher

Four-piece fountain made from "rouge du roi" marble. The gable engraved with the owner's inscription and coat-of-arms, the architrave dated 1579. The concave niche with a lion's head mascaron as a spout issuing into a gadrooned basin. Minor breakages and restorations to all faces, especially to the basin. H 155, W 66, D 62.5 cm
South Germany, Nuremberg (?), 1579.

Hans Auracher appears in the records of Nuremberg artists as marrying Maria Magdalena Tucher, the widow of the Coinage Inspector Georg Gebhard, in 1538.
