A Tyrolese carved wood figure of a bishop saint, circa 1400

Carved in the round, the reverse only summarily worked. With partially overpainted older polychromy. A standing figure in a bishop's garb designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. The drapery of the robes is both detailed and slightly stylised.
The separately worked hands lost. The head possibly either overworked or replaced and reattached at the neck. The lappets of the mitre replaced. Wear throughout. Inscribed on the reverse "1900 Vogl" and "1926 KII-S". Height 79 cm.
