South German 17th century

A group of South German 17th century musical angels

Carved in the round. With possible remains of older polychromy to the hair and garments. A charming ensemble of seven putti in draperies. The lively figures are each shown in various poses, playing stringed and brass instruments, and this liveliness and variety adds greatly to their sculptural quality and effect.
Minor insect damage, otherwise in good condition. Height 42 - 44 cm.
