A carved ivory pax tablet with the Virgin and Child, probabaly French, second half 15th century

With extensive remains of dark polychromy and partial gilding. Thinly carved concave relief. The two drilled holes in the upper corners presumably attachments for the handle with which the pax tablet was passed around the congregation for the kiss of peace.
Wear with losses to the borders. Four drilled holes. Mounted on a velvet covered stand. 7.7 x 7 cm.
