A South German carved ivory figure of Mary Magdalene, first half 16th century

Carved in the round. A standing figure of the saint designed for a frontal viewpoint. Mary Magdalene stands in contrapposto and holds an ointment jar in her left hand. The drapery of the veil, the floor length gown, and the cloak are finely observed and delicately worked.
A horizontal crack below the neck, the right arm reattached. Slightly yellowed. Mounted on a wooden plinth. Height 12.8 cm (without plinth).
