Fitting into each other and with rounded corners, decorated with a swarm of butterflies in maki-e, silvery and red lacquer with a few aogai inlays, on a roiro ground. Tomobako, signed to the reverse of the lid ...shi maki-e Tachibana Tomoshichi, and sealed Tachibana Tomoshichi. (2)

Asano Tomoshichi was a follower of Nagano Yokofue, who founded an urushi table ware shop in Kyoto with the name Tachibanaya. He exhibited at the Kyoto hakurankai (Kyoto Industrial Exhibition) in Meiji 5 (1872) und Meiji 11 (1878).
