An Anglo-Indian calamander wood workbox. Sri Lanka, Galle District. Ca. 1840-1860

The exterior with a flat lid and a scalloped front, back and sides. The interior with 15 compartments with lids of wood inlaid with different specimen woods, and fitted with a detachable tray and divided into thirteen compartments, the lids of bone engraved and highlighted with red and black lacquer and displaying flowers. All lids with metal ring pulls. The inner face of the lid with floral patterns composed of circles of ivory. The corners inset with corner pieces and the lid with three hinges of brass.
