A bonbonnière with a portrait of Friedrich II

Ivory veneer over tortoiseshell corpus. The lid inset with a glazed portrait of the King on horseback after a motif by Daniel Nicolaus Chodowiecki in a gilt surround, painted in gouache on mother-of-pearl and enriched with silver-plated appliques. A minor chip and a small repair to the edge of the lid. H 2.5 cm, D 8.8 cm.
