An important mortar with bird engravings

Chased cast bronze with copper damascening. Of octagonal section with protruding moulded upper and lower rims. The facets decorated with alternating motifs of stylised lotus buds and cartouches with birds. The upper and lower rims with calligraphic inscriptions. With repaired cracks, the base rounded due to use. H 12.2, D 18 cm. Weight c. 4.7 kg. Including a pestle with two ribs.
