A French mortar with herm pilasters

Thick, golden brown cast bronze with dark brown patina. Of squat, tapering form with a slightly moulded base and protruding flared rim. Seven pilaster ribs with mascaron capitals alternating with Christian motifs. The rim decorated with a fleur-de-lys garland above a fine braided border. Surface slightly porous. H 10.7, D 16 cm. Weight c. 2.2 kg.
Late 16th/early 17th century.
