A magnificent Netherlandish mortar with zoomorphic handles

Reddish gold cast bronze with polished natural patina. With several bands of moulding and two panels with two winged grotesques flanking medallions with bands of foliate arabesques above and below. The protruding rim inscribed in capital letters: "LEEFTE VERWINDT ALL DINCK ANO 1589". H 13.9, D 16.3 cm. Weight c. 5.1 kg.
Deventer, attributed to Willem Wegewart, 1589.
