A rare Italian ribbed mortar

Coppery gold cast bronze with dark brown patina. Of squat, tapering form with flaring moulded rim. Four column-shaped ribs with stylised crab capitals. C-shaped handles with braided appliques. Slight greenish corrosion. H 9.6, D 14.5 cm. Weight c. 2.2 kg.
Attributed to Central Italy, possibly Umbria or Perugia, 15th century.
