A Sinzig silver official shield

Silver. Oval cartouche form shield with chased règence décor to the edges, the centre engraved with the coat of arms of the Bachoven von Echt family, inscribed below: "Carl Caspar Bachoven Ambts Verwalter Vogdt und Rhentmeister der Ämbter Sintig und Remagen anno 1727". Brands: BZ Cologne for 1724/25 (Clasen No. 17), not yet identified MZ, probably CE ligated. H 19.5; W 16 cm, weight 129 g.
Cologne, unidentified maker's mark possibly a conjoined “CE” monogram, 1724/25.

Carl Caspar Bachoven von Echt (1693 – 1764), was court councillor in Trier from 1720 – 1764, “vogt” of Jülich, and an administrator in Sinzig. The street that leads past the Bachoven family home has borne their name since the year 1704.
