A Baroque silver wedding belt

A silver belt comprised of two parallel chains interspersed with ten decorative plaques with pierced tendril designs. The clasp and hanging loop for a pouch or cutlery with corresponding décor. L c. 98 cm; weight 246 g.
Unicorn assay mark attributed to Schwäbisch Gmünd, maker's mark “BZ”, late 17th C.

A similar belt by Peter de Montag of Frankfurt dated to around 1680 is housed in the Historisches Museum Frankfurt am Main, cf. also belts in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, the Frankfurt Museum für Angewandte Kunst and in the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin, illus. in cat.: GNM 2007, no. 757 ff.
