Displaying the sleeping Rosei on a Chinese red-lacquered daybed with matting placing his left arm over a pillow and holding up a fan to his face, the face with closed eyes visible through the mica leaf, all rendered in gold and silver takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, red and black lacquer on a roiro ground with some mura-nashiji at the top, on the reverse in togidashi the depiction of Rosei’s dream of being carried to the capital in a palanquin by the servants of the emperor. Fundame to the inside. A coral-red facetted glass ojime and a boxwood netsuke of an Okame mask, signed Shûzan, 19th century. Wooden box.
