A boxwood netsuke of a wasp in a pear. Mid-19th century

Gnawing its way deep into a pear (nashi). The resulting hole's edge, bumps and the bulge between the cord holes illustrate the fruit overripe's state. Its rough texture rendered in ukibori pimples, the wasp's eyes inlaid in black horn.
