A globular Tanba vase, by Ôkami Noboru (1929-2002). Tanba-Sasayama, Hyôgo prefecture. Ca. 1990

With a very small mouth and a flat base. The reddish-brown sherd covered by a mottled white glaze and a light green, whitish and beige-coloured overglaze with stripes resembling fur and streaks ending in droplets. Signed to the base Noboru. Original wooden box, the lid with an inscription reading Tanba haiyû (ash glaze) ryûyô (dripping glaze) tsubo and signed and sealed Noboru.

Ôkami Noboru (1929-2002) was born in Tachimaki in Takigun and graduated from Kansai gakuin daigaku in 1951. He returned home and began training in his family's kiln. He experimented with various glazes and techniques and created tea ceramics, flower vases and table ware. He was an exhibitor at Nitten and Nihon dentô kogeiten and received numerous prizes of Hyôgo prefecture.
