A cypress wood netsuke of a nô actor. 18th century

Standing in long, voluminous robes wearing a high hat and a mask. Softwood with remains of a coloured lacquer coating in the so-called saishiki manner for which Hogen Yoshimura Shuzan is known. Chipped.
Height 9.7 cm

Brockhaus referres to the piece as an actor in the role of a female dancer.
