A Meissen porcelain dish with a Dutch view

Round dish with scalloped rim decorated with a finely painted view of a townhouse by a river in a rocaille cartouche. The lip with ribbon-tied floral garlands. Blue crossed swords mark with dot, dreher's number 34. Wear and retouches to the decor between 5 and 7 o'clock. D 38.7 cm.
Circa 1772 - 74.

Alongside the so-called Stadtholder service given to Stadtholder Willem V (1748 - 1806) of the Netherlands as a gift by the Dutch East India Company in around 1772 to 1774, the manufactory also produced a second service with similar decor, to which this large dish belongs. In contrast to those in the Stadtholder service, the views that decorate this service are not labelled, which makes them more difficult to identify.
Pieces from this service are rare. Bonhams in London sold two small dishes in 2019 (4th December 2019, lot 58), and one plate is housed in the Kestner Museum in Hannover. In his monograph "Het Meissen servies van Stadhouder Willem de Vijfde", Abraham L. den Blaauwen describes the development of the Stadtholder service in detail and illustrates a dish from the second service (p. 33 - 36).
