A Parisian Louis XV cartel clock

Tinted tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl and brass inlays on oak corpus, with ormolu mountings, glazed on three sides. White enamel dial with black indices, pierced gilded hands. 14-day running movement with half-hourly striking on a bell above, earlier verge escapement amended to a lever escapement with spring suspension. Comprising bracket, case and finial decorated with flowering tendril inlays in coloured tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl. The finial formed as a seated Chinoiserie figure with a parasol, two further figures of a man with a guitar and a boy with a parasol (now lost), below. The bronze re-gilt / retouched, minor losses to the marquetry, pendulum and hammer lost. H 122, W 47, D 27 cm.
