An important Nuremberg silver gilt columbine cup

Waisted base with eight lobes supporting a short baluster form shaft with scroll appliques and waisted cup with numerous bulbous and elongated lobes. The rim finely etched with a frieze of birds of paradise and acanthus scrolls. The lid with conforming decor, pierced rim, and a finial formed as a standing putto holding a lance and a shield engraved with a coat of arms. One of the lobes engraved with a house mark. H 47 cm, weight 773 g.

In the conclusion of his expertise, Professor Ernst-Ludwig Richter describes this goblet as "a rare and especially high quality testimony to Nuremberg goldsmith's art of the early 17th century."
