Auguste Delaherche (1857 - 1940), 1890s.

Auguste Delaherche (1857 - 1940) is today considered one of the fathers of modern ceramics. After studying in Paris at the École des Arts Décoratifs, he turned to glassmaking and goldsmithing before he began working with salt-glazed stoneware in 1883. In 1886 he became head of the galvanoplastic department at Cristofle, but continued to produce ceramic vessels. He took part in numerous exhibitions and received awards at the World Fairs of 1889 and 1900. In 1904 he opened a studio and concentrated on unique ceramics and porcelain objects, which he turned and decorated himself.
