A carved wood relief with the Deposition from the Cross, probably Italian, second half 16th century

Presumably boxwood, the reverse flattened. With remnants of a presumably monochrome colouring. This high relief closely follows the composition of a relief by Guglielmo della Porta (1500/1510 Porlezza - 1577 Rome) that is today housed in the Castello Sforzesco in Milan.
Vertical hairline cracks to the centre, the reverse of the piece stabilised with two iron clamps. With some wear. 57.5 x 41.5 x 2.5 cm.
