A pair of Berlin KPM porcelain dinner plates from the dinner service for Pope Pius XI

Model no. 337. With raised gilt décor and purple scale pattern with floral garlands. The rims entwined by purple ribbons, the centres decorated with rich bouquets. Inscribed in gold on the reverse: “SR. HEILIGKEIT PAPST PIUS XI ZUM GOLDENEN PRIESTER-JUBILAEUM DIE DEUTSCHE REICHSREGIERUNG”. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark, year letter delta or theta with two dots, impressed mark T 3, black painter's mark. D 24.8 and 25 cm.
C. 1933.

On occasion of the golden anniversary of his priesthood in 1929, Cardinal Achille Ratti (1857 - 1939) – who was ordained Pope Pius XI in 1922 – received a dinner service inspired by the forms, colours, and décor of the Rococo porcelain services designed for Frederick the Great.
