An Islamic mortar with silver inlays

Engraved cast bronze, silver inlays, some minor verdigris due to corrosion. Cylindrical mortar with protruding upper rim. Decorated with two rows of six teardrop motifs alternating with silver inlay knot ornaments and birds. A calligraphic inscription along the upper rim. The base slightly rounded due to use. H 13.3, D 13.6 cm, weight c. 4.2 kg. The tapering pestle with a rounded grip and bands of decoration with calligraphy and teardrop motifs. The upper section defective (presumably a casting flaw). L 21.5 cm.
