An unusual kitchen mortar with sage leaf motifs

Gold toned cast bronze with natural patina. Decorated in three tiers separated by mouldings: The upper with an inscription in Latin capital letters “I D R IANE IALIER”, below it the date “1617”. With two angular moulded handles. H 17, D 10.5 cm, weight c. 3 kg. The corresponding pestle with a node. L 21.5 cm.
Attributed to Strasbourg, 1617.
