An important carved ivory frame

Carved ivory relief formed from numerous separate pieces on a stained hardwood corpus, with later mirror pane. The upper section curved in the centre, the two straight sides with demi-columns upon each of which perches an eagle with outspread wings. Reliefs of winged putti playing horns and flutes amid densely carved oak leaves surround the central crowned cartouche with the coat of arms of France and Navarre engraved with the devise "MONT JOYE S.DENIS". Some very minor losses and replacements. H ca. 135, W ca. 89. Inner dimensions H 92, W 62 cm. Back panel H 141, W 95 cm.
Attributed to Spain or the Spanish Colonies, the ivory 19th C., the mountings 20th C.
