A pair of unique museum quality boxes by Abraham Roentgen

Palisander, cherry and olive wood veneers on oak and cherry, engraved brass and brass-plated iron mountings. Oblong boxes with slanted angles and hinged lids with top handles. The lids and four outer faces decorated with palisander-framed rhombus marquetry. The slanted angles with diagonal veneer framed with palisander and inlaid with engraved brass leaf motifs. The protruding base resting on four curved bracket feet. The cartouche form lock plate can be opened via a spring mechanism. With a corresponding small brass cartouche decorating the lid. Fitted with a removable inset separated into six compartments. With a shallow secret door in the ride side of the base that can be opened via a hexagonal button in the inner right wall. With small shrinkage cracks with older repairs, in very good restored condition. H with handle folded down 16.1, W 31.6, D 22.2 and H 16.2, W 31.8, D 22.1 cm.
