A large cherry wood box by Abraham Roentgen

Solid cherry and cherry veneer, solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, engraved brass and brass-plated iron mountings. Oblong box with a hinged lid and fixed handle. The lid and four outer faces decorated with fine rhombus marquetry in cherry veneer framed by thin brass strips. The protruding base resting on four curved bracket feet. The finely engraved cartouche form lock plate can be opened via a spring mechanism. Fitted with a removable inset separated into four compartments. With a shallow secret door in the ride side of the base that can be opened via a hexagonal button in the inner right wall. With a square amendment to the base. H with handle folded down 18.5, W 30.3, D 20.8 cm.
