A carved wood figure of Mary Magdalene, Mechelen circa 1520/1530

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse smoothed down. Minimal remains of older polychromy. A standing figure of the saint designed for a frontal viewpoint. She is depicted in contemporary fashion, holding an ointment jar in her left hand. The reverse of the sculpture appears to bear the three indentations of the city mark of Mechelen, although they are hard to distinguish.
The right forearm lost. Minimal wear. Height 28.5 cm.
