Signed Hokyudo Itsumin to in a rectangular reserve
The three wise monkeys (sanbiki saru), sitting in front of a stele inscribed with the character ko. The monkeys' eyes double inlaid with light and black horn.

The kanji (ko) on the stele refers to the deity and the folklore Koshin. From the 16th century on such stelae (koshin-to) were erected as memorials in Japan by the followers of the faith. The reserve in which the piece is signed also takes the form of such a stele.
