An ebony Moebius strip

Of elongated form, both sides with thickened loops intersecting in the centre without touching.

Brad Blakley's carvings incorporate equally figurative and abstract elements. The present work seems to have been created less as a functional netsuke than as a purely aesthetic execution of a geometric structure. In geometry, a Moebius strip refers to a surface with one edge and one side only.
Length 12.6 cm

Provenance

Collection June H. Schuerch (1930-2009), thence in family property
