An 18k gold pendant with a paste intaglio

Thick oval plaque of glass designed to resemble dark carnelian. Carved with a Neoclassical intaglio depiction of a muscular youth with the attributes of Hercules, a club and a lion's pelt and a Greek inscription. Presumably a Pichler impression of an intaglio from the collection of Stanislas Poniatowski. In a smooth gold surround with a diamond set bail. With a minute dent to the edge on the reverse. 3.8 x 2.5 cm. Weight 21.96 g.
