Three Limoges enamel plaques with depictions of Roman emperors

Three oval copper panels mounted on card, decorated in enamels and gilding with busts of emperors in laurel crowns on black ground, inscribed in gold: “CAESAR CALGVLA IIII”, “SILVNIVS OTHO VIII” (Salvius Otho) and “TITVS VESPASIAN XI”. Older restorations to the rim, breakages, especially to the figure of Vespasian. H ca. 7.3 cm.

The piece depicts three of the regents described in Sueton's eight-volume “De vita Caesarum”, which covers the Roman emperors from Caesar to Domitian.
