A rare Austrian pewter mulled beer tankard

Engraved pewter tankard on three winged angel's head supports. The interior fitted with a pierced screw-mounted semi-spherical insert and a screw with an angel's head terminal. The lid with the city mark of Steyr and maker's mark of Vicenz Burel. H 14.5 cm.
Steyer, Master Vicenz Burel (1626 Landmeister der Linzer Lade).

Literature

This maker listed in Hintze, Die deutschen Zinngießer und ihre Marken, vol. VII, Osnabrück 1965, no. 1338. Therein mentioned a similar vessel with a spice compartment dated 1651 in the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum, Innsbruck.
