An ivory netsuke of a monkey and a catfish. Early 19th century

The monkey wearing a sleeveless jacket sits next to a catfish and presses a gourd onto the namazu's head in order to calm him down. He thereby prevents an earthquake, albeit his tail is still shown in flipping motion. Restored. Traces of black ink of a former accession number.
