A Berlin KGM porcelain plaque with a depiction of a white horse

Possibly based on a painting by George Stubbs (1724 - 1806). Monogrammed lower left "Wvo" (?) and dated "1837", impressed eagle mark and 7P. H 17.2, W 20 cm.
Lead-free "Gesundheitsgeschirr" (health porcelain), 1837.

Provenance

From the property of a German aristocrat, auctioned by Christie's Amsterdam on 24th March 1999, lot 480. - Private collection, Berlin.

Lead-free glaze was first produced in France in the late 18th century under the name "Hygiocerames". In 1818, KPM founded a sister firm, "KGM", specialised in the production of this ware based on the banks of the Spree to the west of the Tiergarten.
