A cast iron bust of mining inspector Abraham Gottlob Werner

Black patinated cast iron, slightly mottled on the reverse. Cast in two parts and screw-mounted. Depicted in uniform wearing the knight's cross of the Saxon order of merit and loyalty. H 22.7 cm.
Attributed to Gleiwitz/ Gliwice, around 1820, the model attributed to Johann Carl Friedrich Riese

Abraham Gottlob Werner (1749 - 1817) was an important German mineralogist, active at the Mining Academy in Freiberg. He was awarded the Saxon Order of Merit in 1816, one year before his death.
