An Islamic mortar

Engraved case bronze with remnants of red pigment almost entirely obscured by verdigris. Of waisted form, decorated with two rows of six lotus buds alternating with rhombus motifs. The upper and lower rims with calligraphy. With dents to the rim. H 13.3, D 15.6 cm, includes engraved pestle, weight with pestle c. 6.6 kg.
